Emergency protection

In urgent cases, we can help you apply to court without notifying the other party. This is known as a “without notice” application. If the court is satisfied that you are at risk, it can make a temporary order the same day. The other party will then have a chance to respond at a later hearing.

We act quickly and sensitively, ensuring your safety is the priority. We explain what the order can and cannot do, how to prepare, and what to expect next.

Confidential and secure

We understand how difficult it is to speak about abuse. Everything you share with us is treated in the strictest confidence. We will never contact the other party or act without your consent. If you need support beyond legal help, we can also signpost you to trusted services for housing, financial aid, or emotional support.

Who will handle your case

All domestic abuse matters are handled or supervised by a qualified solicitor. You will receive a written client care letter explaining who is supporting you, what work is included, and how to reach us in confidence.

Language support

We provide legal support in Bengali, Sylheti, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Somali, and other languages. If you would prefer to speak in your own language or need support understanding court papers, please tell us. We can also arrange a professional interpreter where necessary.

Disbursements and additional costs

Some domestic abuse cases may involve payments to third parties. These are known as disbursements. They are separate from our legal fee and may include court-related fees, interpreters, or costs for sworn statements.

We will always explain any disbursement in advance, including the full cost, its purpose, and whether it needs to be paid directly or through us. You will not be charged for any third-party cost without your agreement.

Frequently asked questions

A non-molestation order is a court order that prevents someone from threatening, harassing or abusing you. It can also prevent them from contacting you directly or through others.

Not always. If there is a serious risk to your safety, we can apply for a "without notice" order so they are not informed in advance. The court will review the urgency and decide.

In urgent cases, a hearing can take place on the same day. Most non-molestation orders are granted for a fixed period (usually 6–12 months) and can be renewed if necessary.

There is no court fee for non-molestation or occupation order applications. You will only pay our fixed legal fee and any disbursements, all of which will be confirmed in writing before we act.

In some cases, yes. If your visa depends on your relationship and you are affected by domestic abuse, you may be eligible for alternative routes. We can advise you on this sensitively and confidentially.

Yes. You can still apply for a protective order even if you share a home with the other person. The court can also decide whether one person should stay or leave.

Breaching a non-molestation order is a criminal offence. We will advise you on reporting breaches and can support you with enforcement proceedings if needed.

Yes. Nothing you tell us will be shared without your written consent. We take your safety, privacy, and dignity seriously.
