What is a Forced Marriage Protection Order?
A Forced Marriage Protection Order is a legal order from the family court that can prevent someone from being forced into a marriage. It can stop another person from
- Taking the victim abroad
- Pressuring them emotionally or financially
- Confiscating passports or documents
- Arranging contact or communication
- Taking steps toward a wedding or ceremony
An FMPO can be made quickly, often on the same day.
The order can include any condition the court thinks necessary to protect the person at risk.
You can apply for an FMPO if
- You are at risk of being forced into marriage
- You have already been forced into a marriage
- You are concerned about someone else’s safety
We provide urgent legal help to prepare the application, gather the evidence, and apply to the court in confidence.
