What Is Naturalisation?
Naturalisation is the process through which a non-British adult can become a British citizen. Once granted, you gain full citizenship rights, including
- A British passport
- The right to vote
- The right to live, work and study in the UK without restrictions
- Protection from immigration removal or loss of status
Your citizenship cannot be removed unless serious legal grounds apply.
Who can apply?
You may be eligible to apply for naturalisation if
- You are over 18
- You have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled Status

You have lived in the UK for at least 5 years
(or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British citizen) -
You have not been outside the UK for more than 450 days in the last 5 years
(or more than 270 days in the last 3 years if applying as a spouse) - You have not broken immigration laws during your stay
- You meet the good character requirement
- You have passed the Life in the UK Test
- You meet the English language requirement (unless exempt)
your application is not submitted unless you meet the legal threshold.

Disbursements and Additional Costs
Some immigration matters may involve payments to third parties. These are called disbursements. They are not part of our legal fee and are usually payable directly to the provider or through us with your approval. We will always explain any disbursement in advance so you can plan accordingly.

Once your application is submitted, the Home Office typically takes

- Some cases may take longer if further checks are required
