What Is a UK Spouse Visa?
The Spouse Visa allows non-UK nationals to join their
British or settled partner in the UK.
You may be eligible if you are
- Married to a British citizen or someone with indefinite leave to remain
- In a civil partnership or a long-term committed relationship
- Applying from outside or switching from another visa inside the UK
You must meet strict Home Office requirements, including
- Proving your relationship is genuine and ongoing
- Meeting the financial threshold
- Providing suitable accommodation
- Meeting the English language requirement
A successful application grants you 30–33 months of leave.
You can extend it and later apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
Why legal support matters
Many Spouse Visa applications are refused due to
- Missing or incomplete documents
- Mistakes in financial evidence
- Unclear or inconsistent information
- Outdated or unsupported claims
Even small issues can cause months of delay or loss of fees.
In some cases, they may affect your ability to reapply.
Working with a solicitor from the outset helps you avoid these problems
and gives your application the best chance of success.
